Teen Entrepreneur: Kat Bearce
Meet Kat Bearce. Kat moved to Maple Grove eleven years ago, when she was only two. At only age thirteen she has become a business owner. During the pandemic she found herself bored and buying her dog a lot of bandanas, so she decided to start her business, Love, Luna. Named after her dog, Love, Luna sells dog bandanas along with other fun items like keychains and scrunchies.
Kat created an Instagram page for her business, and she taught herself how to grow the platform. In only a few months, she has grown Love, Luna’s Instagram to over 1,500 followers. Kat enjoys connecting with other young shop owners online, and she hopes to continue this line of work when she grows up.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: I've always been creative and started selling my art a few years ago at Art-a-Whirl. I follow several small businesses run by kids my age, and I decided to launch my own. I love dogs, so making bandanas for them was an easy choice. My business is named after my dog, Luna. Each new customer gets a hand written note by me, and the business name is like her signing it - Love, Luna. I didn't get an Instagram account until I turned 13, and I started with one for Luna. I grew it to over 2,000 followers, and during that time, taught myself about photography and social media marketing. Luna is a model for some other IG shops and once I started Love, Luna, I created an IG account for that which is over 1,500 followers, and I have models for my bandanas as well. My favorite part of the business is seeing pictures of cute dogs wearing my bandanas.
